CUSHING, Iowa - Lavelle Earl DeVries, 64, of Cushing died Saturday, March 30, at his residence.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Cushing with the Rev. Dee Ann Klapp officiating. Burial will be in the Cushing Cemetery with a flag presentation by Post 624, American Legion of Cushing.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer, service at 7:30 p.m., at the Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

Mr. DeVries was born June 24, 1931, in Highmore, S.D., the son of William and Bertha (Madder) DeVries. He married Mary Lou Lehrman Nov. 6, 1955, at St. John Lutheran Church in Ireton. The couple moved to Cushing in April 1971. He was a farmhand for Ludvigson stock farm. He collected Allis Chalmers tractors.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Earl and his wife, Angie of Rodney; a daughter, Betty Lou and her husband, Chris Scott of Cushing; three grandchildren, Dustin and Jacob Scott and Shauna DeVries, and two sisters, Alice and her husband, Raymond Baumiller and Bernice Semmier, all of Parkston, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Ashton.
