DANBURY, Iowa-- Edmund Nicholas Dirksen, 89, of Danbury died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1997, at his residence.

Funeral Mass services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury, with the Rev. David Hogan officiating. Burial will be in Danbury Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a vigil wake service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary said by the Knights of Columbus, at the church. Armstrong Funeral Home of Danbury and Mapleton, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Dirksen was born Nov. 7, 1907, in Mapleton, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Barbara (Theobald) Dirksen. He was raised in the Mapleton area and attended St. Mary's Catholic School.

He married Silvina Seuntjens on April 26, 1938, in Danbury. The couple farmed in rural Danbury for 50 years, retiring into Dandury in 1975.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He served on the Danbury Public School Board from 1960 to 1961.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Kenneth and Marianne of Bennington, Neb., Norman and Angela of Augusta, Maine and Warren and Kathy of Danbury; two daughters Maureen and her husband Andrew Wede of Rapids City, S.D. and Linda Dirksen of Omaha, Neb.; two brothers and their wives, Leo and Mary of Danbury and Ronald and Shirley of Kingsley, Iowa; four sisters, Sister M. Ronald of Dubuque, Iowa, Ann and her husband Joe Oberreuter of Danbury, Louise Sandell of Mapleton and Mary Arney of Onawa, Iowa; 16 grandchildren, Becky Osuna, Michelle Conley, Melissa, Stephen, Mark, Julie, Angie, Sandi, John, Joe, Amanda, and Matthew Dirksen, Krista, Scott, Kim, and Jennifer Wede; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by three sisters; and two brothers.
