HORNICK, Iowa — Gerald E. Beckstrom, 77, of Hornick died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church in Hornick, with the Rev. Terra Amundson officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery, Holly Springs, Iowa.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Wood Funeral Home in Sloan, Iowa.

Mr. Beckstrom was born Dec. 22, 1921, in Polk, Neb. the son of Verner and Lillie (Swedenburg) Beckstrom. He graduated from Stromsburg (Neb.) High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II for three and a half years in the South Pacific.

He married Joan Schwab on Nov. 2, 1945, in Central City, Neb. The couple moved to Hornick in 1951, where he farmed.

He was a member of United Methodist Church and American Legion Hindman-Steele Post 492 in Hornick.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Marilyn and Larry Kahman of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Don and Kathy of Carroll, Iowa, and Ron and Shelly of Pierson, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four brothers and their wives, Eldon and Mary of Grand Island, Neb., Irvin and Maxine of Stromsburg, Marvin and Pat of Springfield, Neb., and Marland and Gae of Clarks, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death his parents and a sister, Corrine.
