HOLLY SPRINGS, Iowa — Geraldine J. "Gerry" Metcalf, 80, of Holly Springs died unexpectedly Sunday, March 14, 1999, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Christy- Smith Funeral Home, Morningside Chapel, the Rev. Jim Thomas of Holly Springs Bible Fellowship officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery, Holly Springs. Visitation will be 2 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. with the Rev. Terrie Lillie officiating at the funeral home.

Mrs. Metcalf was born Aug. 13, 1918 in Danbury, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Bertha (McCleary) Lillie.

She was raised in Danbury before moving to Oto, Iowa with her family. She graduated from Oto High School in 1936.

She married Kenneth L. Metcalf on Jan. 7, 1937, in Elk Point, S.D. The couple moved to Holly Springs.

She was employed with Sioux City Battery Co., Zenith Corp. (Wincharger) and Martin's Department Store for many years.

Mr. Metcalf died April 6, 1998, in Holly Springs.

She attended Holly Springs Bible Fellowship and was a member of Holly Springs Ladies Aid, Hornick (Iowa) Library Club and Sloan (Iowa) Bridge Club. She served as a 4-H leader for many years.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Dennis and Beverly of Dallas, Texas; three daughters and their husbands, Avalee and Bud Horn of Newport Beach, Calif., Cheryl and Terry Van Cleve of Ralston, Neb., and Corene and Milt Aunan of Urbandale,Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Michelle, Denise, Mike, Tim, Troy, Tamra, Amy, Jana, Kari and Laura; six great-grandchildren; and a brother and his wife, Warren "Jack" and Mary Lillie of Anahiem, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Helen Hansen; and six brothers, Vincent, Glen, Loyal, Harold, William "Bill" and Norman.

Memorials may be directed to Holly Springs Bible Fellowship, Hornick Library or Hornick American Legion.
