Harley Vesti "Whitey" Andersen, 79, of Kingsley died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 1996, at the Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Kingsley, with the Rev, John Crosswhite officiating. Burial will be in Correctionville Cemetery in Correctionville, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and a Masonic service conducted by the Nash American Legion 470 A.F. & A.M. of Kingsley at 7:30 p.m., at the Earnest-Dickison-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley.

Mr. Andersen was born June 17, 1917, in Correctionville, the son of John and Maren (Nielson) Andersen. He graduated from the Correctionville High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Betty Keller on Nov. 13, 1947, in Correctionville. He bought the Wausa Gazette in Wausa, Neb., in 1949, selling it in 1955. In 1956, he owned and operated the Kingsley Times, retiring in 1976.

He played with many big bands and at two different times had his own band. He played with the Johnny Galvin Orchestra for many years.

Mr. Andersen was a member of the United Methodist Church of Kingsley and the Cosmos Lodge 470 A.F. & A.M. American Legion.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Karen and her husband Tom Bennett of Denver, Carol Kirchner of Correctionville and Susan and her husband Larry Steffen of Moville, Iowa; a brother, John Andersen Jr.; a sister, Norma Glassburner of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and seven grandchildren, Tyler Martinson, Timothy and Rebecca Bennett, Kelly and Kevin Kirchner and Cory and Eric Steffen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Richard and Moss.
