SIOUX CITY | Virginia M. Kofka, 85, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City. The Rev. David A. Hemann will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 4 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

A lifelong Sioux City resident, "Jennie" was born on March 13, 1927, in Sioux City, to Elias and Josephine (Shaddid) Stephens. She graduated from Central High School.

On July 30, 1946, she married Charles F. Kofka at Cathedral Catholic Church in Sioux City. She and Charles were members of St. Michael Catholic Church since 1959. Charles passed away on June 10, 2009, in Sioux City. Jennie was employed by New York Life Insurance Company as a secretary for many years. After retirement, she and Charles wintered at Sleepy Valley Ranch in Mission, Texas, where they enjoyed the mild winters with their many snow-bird friends,

Jennie was a wonderful loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She enjoyed raising her three children, playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, dancing, playing cards, golfing, volunteering at Trinity Heights, genealogy, and creating beautiful needlework projects.

Survivors include three children, Frank Kofka and his wife, Suzanne of Sioux City, Sue Smith and her husband, Rich of Ida Grove, and Valarie Cross of Houston, Texas; her brother, E. Robert Stephens of Coralville, Iowa; three grandchildren, Adrienne Kofka, Shawn Smith and Ryan Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Danielle Koester, J.D. Smith and Samantha Smith

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; an infant son, Stephen Michael; her brothers and sister, Tony Stephens, George Stephens, Mary Nutter and Mike Stephen.

The family wishes to thank Morningside Care Center, Horn Memorial Hospital and Horn Hospice all of Ida Grove and the Rev. Richard Ball for their loving care.
