SIOUX CITY, Iowa | Effie Louise (Johnson) Pickrel, 102, of El Cajon, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, died Nov. 5, 2012, in La Mesa, Calif.

Services will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Morningside Presbyterian Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. David Koehler officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Bayview Crematory and Mortuary in San Diego, Calif.

Effie was born on May 3, 1910, in Bronson, Iowa. She was raised in Bronson. She graduated from Bronson High School in 1928 and from Morningside College in 1932. She taught at Bronson High School.

She married Clyde Pickrel on June 6, 1939, in Bronson. The couple moved to Sioux City following their marriage. She moved to El Cajon in 1989.

She was a member of Morningside Riparian Study Club, and Morningside Order of the Eastern Star 502. She also was a member of Morningside Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, a deacon and an elder. She also belonged to many women's organizations.

Survivors include a brother, Warren Johnson; her children, Leroy (Cheryl) Pickrel of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., and Laura (Andy) McLaughlin of El Cajon; granddaughters, Tammy (Kevin) Hoover, and Julie Pickrel; grandsons, Jeff Mueller, William (Morgan) McLaughlin, Clint McLaughlin, and Matthew McLaughlin; and great-grandchildren, Nick Hoover and Carly Mueller.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; a sister, Dorothy Tye; a brother, Wayne Johnson; and her parents, Harry and Winnie Johnson.

Memorials may be directed to Morningside Presbyterian Church.
