Elna Frances Barby was born on Nov. 18, 1916, to Frank and Ella Wiedemann in Correctionville, Iowa. Elna was part of the era known as the Greatest Generation. She lived in and around Anthon for 91 years. She worked as an accountant alongside her husband, the love of her life, in the grain elevator business. She retired from Quaker Oats in 1982.

She lived through the Depression, married a World War II war veteran, taught school in a multi-classroom setting, worked tirelessly in a family farming environment and, most important, lived within the Christian doctrine. She made a difference in all of her endeavors. She taught Sunday school at Climbing Hill Lutheran Church in Iowa for many years. She was a weather watcher. She always knew what storms were on the horizon. She loved to dance with Leo and all of her friends. She will be sorely missed and was loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by her son, Curtiss B. Barby of St Louis, Mo.; her daughter, Creta Barby Foy; son-in-law, Carney Foy; and granddaughters, Carston Barby Foy and Dr. Caytlyn Foy.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Leo Barby; her parents, Frank and Ella Wiedemann; and her brother and sister-in-law, Alva and Eldora Wiedemann.
