SIOUX CITY | Elizabeth "Betty" Veronica Jordt, 92, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Holy Spirit Nursing Home in Sioux City.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Collison officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present at 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Betty was born on March 20, 1920, to John and Mary (Doyle) Huebsch, in Eagle Grove, Iowa. She graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Fort Dodge, Iowa, in 1938. Getting an education was extremely important to Betty. She began her teaching career in 1938, teaching in Humboldt County, Iowa, country schools. She taught both in the parochial and public school settings first, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, then in Fort Dodge. She attended college and earned her teaching degree and administrator certification from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Later, she received her master's in counseling from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.

On Feb. 4, 1947, Betty married Donald Jordt in Belle Plain, Iowa. They farmed near New Hartford, Iowa. After moving to Sioux City, Betty returned to her career in teaching with assignments in Sergeant Bluff, St. Joseph Catholic School, and the Sioux City Community Schools from 1961 to her retirement in 1990. Betty spent the majority of her teaching career teaching fourth grade at Smith School.

Besides teaching, Betty enjoyed gardening, earning master gardener status in her later years. She was an avid reader and storyteller. She worked crossword puzzles to keep her mind active. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish. When she had the opportunity, she treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her two sons, Bill and his wife, Deb of Westfield, Iowa, and John and his wife, Mary of Vermillion, S.D.; four grandchildren, Andrea (Trent) Robbins of Mankato, Minn., Matthew (Kay) Jordt of Baldwin, Wis., Sarah (Dave) Kuck of Minneapolis, and Ellissa (Jon) Bruns of Battle Creek, Iowa; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Vince Huebsch of Anchorage, Alaska, and Bill (Dorothy) Huebsch of McCook, S.D.; special family friends, Kevin and Karen Vickery and their children, Blake, Josh, Addison, and Austin, Brad and Ranee Held and children, Benjamin, Raleah, and Braden, Ron and Patty Heagel, Jeff, Jill and Patrick; many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents; her brothers, John and Alfred; a sister, Margaret Dickerson; and her granddaughter, Emily Jordt.

Memorials may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sioux City Community School Foundation or St. Luke's Children's Miracle Network.
