SIOUX CITY -- Ruth B. Schultz, 81, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at Regency Square Care Center in South Sioux City.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City. The Rev. Tom LoVan will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Ruth B. Schultz was born on Oct. 11, 1930, in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd and Minnie (Kammerer) Mauer. She received her education in Le Mars, graduating from Le Mars High School in 1948.

On June 26, 1949, Ruth and Karl Schultz were united in marriage at St. John's Lutheran Church (Preston Township), rural Akron, Iowa. In the mid 1950s, Ruth and Karl moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho. Ruth remained at home while Karl worked for the Atomic Energy Commission. In 1965, they returned to Le Mars and later moved to Sioux City in December 1967. In the late 1970s, Ruth took a position with Marian Health Center in Sioux City as a medical transcriptionist.

Ruth was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City. She was very active with music at church and sang in the choir and played piano and organ. She performed at area events with the Dancing Grandpas and Grannies. At 60 years of age, Ruth learned to ride horses with her son, John. She enjoyed cooking, baking and took great pride in being a grandmother.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son, John of Cleburne, Texas; a granddaughter, Kaitlyn Schultz of Blair, Neb.; a grandson, Adam Schultz of Camp Pendleton, Calif.; sisters, Dorothy Tammes and her husband, Earl of Le Mars, and Carol Strope of Boise, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Karl on March 28, 1999; sisters, Eloise Meadows, Jane Mauer and Helen Saienga; and a brother, Robert Mauer.
