SIOUX CITY -- James Stotz, 70, of Sioux City died Thursday, March 8, 2012, at his home surrounded by family.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a parish vigil at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

James was born May 14, 1941, at Elk Point, S.D., the son of John and Blanche (Shoop) Stotz. He attended country school near Elk Point and graduated from Elk Point High School.

James married Mary Landers on Nov. 15, 1958. He worked at A.Y. McDonalds for 20 years. He then went to work for Briggs Inc. in Sioux City as manager for over 32 years, retiring on Oct. 31, 2010.

James was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for over 50 years. He was a Eucharistic minister and usher at the church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Stotz of Sioux City; two daughters and their husbands, JoEllen and Dennis Hebert and Lynn and Daniel Brown, all of Sioux City; a son, Michael Stotz of Le Mars, Iowa; five grandchildren, Janette and Christopher Bentley of Freemont, Neb., Jessica and Cody Fiscus of Sioux City, Marie and Matthew Herrman of Omaha, Melinda Brown of Sioux City, and Jenna and Derrick Hayden of Miami, Fla.; six great-grandchildren, Madison, Noah, Chesnie, Joel, Nicholas and Aubrey; four sisters, Margaret and Don Ren of Lake Stevens, Wash., Mary Ellen and Clayton Staum and Velma Austad, all of Elk Point, S.D., and Kathy and Dwain Jolin of Sapula, Okla.; a brother, John and Nellie Stotz of Chatsworth, Iowa; and a special sister-in-law, Patty VanBockern of Sioux Falls, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
