SIOUX CITY | Tillie B. Torgenson, 92, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at a local nursing facility.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Logan Park Cemetery, with the Rev. R. Paul Johnston officiating. Visitation with family will be 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Tillie was born on Sept. 20, 1920, in Menno, S.D., to William and Christina (Hersch) Bechtold. She received her education in Menno before her marriage to Herman Ulmer.

She worked on the family farm along side her husband, raising her two sons. She and Herman later divorced. During her travels, Tillie met Don Torgenson while in Las Vegas, Nev., and the two married in December 1982. The two lived in Rapid City, S.D. before moving to Sioux City in 1989. Tillie operated her beauty salon above the Orpheum Theater. She operated the Merle Norman Cosmetics until her retirement.

Tillie enjoyed traveling, growing flowers, and fishing. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City. She enjoyed traveling south for the winter months to Superstitious Mountain, outside Phoenix, Ariz.

Tillie is survived by her sons, Kenneth Ulmer and his wife Ann of Hartley, Iowa, and Edward Ulmer and his wife Clara of Black Hawk, S.D.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchilden.

Tillie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don in 2005; and a grandson, Steve Ulmer in 2008.
