SIOUX CITY | Kenneth Duane Smith, 71, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at a local care facility.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Ken was born on Oct. 14, 1941, in Sioux City, the son of John and Iona (Bohlman) Smith. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force.

Ken married Christine Tanner on April 19, 1969, in Sioux City. They later divorced, but remained close friends. He had been a lifelong Sioux City resident. Ken worked as a machinist for McCracken Concrete Pipe Machinery Company for several years. He retired from the utilities department of the city of Sioux City after 20 years.

He was very active in AA and enjoyed going to meetings, social events and conferences. He also enjoyed traveling with his friends. Ken had been sober since 1975.

Ken is survived by two sons, Alan and his wife, Charity Smith of Sioux City, and Scott Smith of Sioux City; a stepdaughter, Carrie Cardwell of Sioux City; six brothers, Paul, David, John, Fred, Tim and Ed; three grandchildren, Devin, Alexandra, and Connor; a stepgrandchild, Sierra; and a great-grandchild, Keegan.
