SIOUX CITY -- Isadore S. Girard, 98, of Sioux City passed away Friday, March 9, 2012, at a Sioux City care facility.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., a rosary at 6 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Isadore was born Feb. 22, 1914, in Vermillion, S.D., the son of Felix and Leah (LaJesse) Girard. He was the 13th of 18 children. He graduated from Jefferson (S.D.) High School.

He married Lena Dandurand on Nov. 16, 1936. They moved to Sioux City where they lived with their six children until her death in 1982. He later married Berniece Harris on Nov. 8, 1983, and moved to Akron, Iowa.

Isadore worked at Cudahy Packing Plant, during which time he served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy as fireman first class during World War II, then returned to Cudahy until the plant closed. He worked for Safeway grocery store as a butcher, followed by a job in the water department for the City of Sioux City until his retirement.

He enjoyed dancing, which he managed to do at least once a week, even in his later years. Some of his other interests included fishing, arm wrestling, pulling pranks on whomever fell victim, bingo, camping, gardening, cards and spending time with his family and friends. He was very well known and enjoyed by all.

Survivors include his wife, Berniece of Sioux City; two sons, Donald (Nelia) Girard of Las Vegas, Nev., and Gerald (Terra) Girard of Minneapolis, Minn.; four daughters, Sharon Doty of Sioux Falls, Mary (S. Paul) Mosher of Sioux City, Deb (Dan) Britt of Le Mars, Iowa, and Vicki (Kevin) Kollbaum of Hornick, Iowa; a stepson, Greg Harris of Minneapolis; two stepdaughters, Kathleen Harris of Minneapolis and Margaret Ann of Akron; a sister, Beulah (Darrel) Brown of North Sioux City; 18 grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Lena; eight brothers, Albert, Peter, Adlore, Harvey, Alphonse, Israel, Emil and Ranal; seven sisters, Amanda, Alphosine, Roseanna, Emma, Lena, Irene and Melvina; and a son-in-law, L. Kenneth Doty.
