SIOUX CITY | Ada B. Red Owl, 88, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at a local hospital.

Wake services are being held today at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, with services at 10 a.m. Monday. Services in Santee will consist of wake services Monday evening until the funeral service at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Holy Faith Cemetery at Santee, Neb. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service and the Santee Nation Wake and Burial Services.

Ada was born on Feb. 2, 1924, in Santee, Neb. She attended school in Santee. During 1945, she was united in marriage to Isaac Red Owl in Center, Neb. They farmed in the Santee area until moving to Sioux City during 1950, and later moving to South Sioux City. In 1967 the family moved back to Sioux City.

Ada loved sewing. She created many hand-sewn quilts and star quilts. She was involved with St. Paul’s sewing group. She enjoyed Bingo and had her share of luck winning. She was also an avid pro wrestling fan.

On Aug. 17 of this year, Ada was invited to attend the Legacy of Survival held in Minnesota. Exactly 150 years earlier, on Aug. 17, 1862, the Santee Nation was forcibly removed from Minnesota to the Dakotas and Nebraska. She was very honored to be a part of the Santee Nation being welcomed back to Minnesota.

Ada is survived by four sons, Dennis, Kenny, Robert and Ronald Red Owl; one daughter, Alice Fay Rouillard; three adopted grandchildren, Richard, Anjanette and Sonja Red Owl; over 150 grand and great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sons, George, Clifford, Gary and Larry Red Owl; one daughter, Lydia Red Owl; one adopted grandson, David Red Owl; three brothers, Floyd, Ruddy and Obert Johnson; and one sister, Bernice Medina.
