SIOUX CITY | Mary Clare (Beacom) Schumacher, 90, of Sioux City died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at Touchstone Living Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a Catholic Daughters of The Americas rosary at 4 p.m., a vigil service at 7 p.m. and the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Mary Clare was born on Sept. 17, 1922, in Tara Hill, Neb., the daughter of Thomas A. and Mary (Coleman) Beacom. She graduated from Trinity High School in Hartington, Neb.

On Oct. 25, 1947, she married Herbert E. "Hep" Schumacher at St. Boniface Catholic Church. They raised five children. Hep died on March 16, 1986, in Sioux City. In earlier years, Mary worked for Wincharger Corp. and Fairmont Foods. She later worked at the Woodbury County Community Action Agency. She also was a volunteer at The Bargain Center.

Mary was a longtime active member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters. She was a charter member of the Mission Club and was a Cub Scout leader and Girl Scout leader. Mary enjoyed her golf league at Sun Valley Golf Course and her bowling league. She also enjoyed reading, sewing and growing her flowers and tomatoes. Mary will be remembered for her gift of laughter and her ability to make others laugh as well.

Survivors include five children, Patrick Schumacher of Portland, Ore., Michael Schumacher and his wife, Dona of Portland, Terri Kass of Sioux City, Carol Kukuk and her husband, Marty of Lincoln, Neb., and Thomas Schumacher and his wife, Linda of Plainfield, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, Anna (Gerado) Marquez and Emily Schumacher of Portland, Katie (Sean) Magoun of Kalaheo, Hawaii, Pete Kass of Melbourne, Australia, Kevin Kass of Lawrence, Kan., Liz (Scott) Thorson of Lincoln, Sarah (Matt) Blomenkamp of Omaha, Joe Kukuk of Lincoln, and Tara, Sean and Tyler Schumacher of Plainfield; seven great-grandchildren, Abby and Sophie Thorson, Thatcher and Mary Magoun, Isaac and Alison Blomenkamp and Nevan Marquez; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and eight siblings, Jack, Bernice, Rose Kneifl, Veronica Finnegan, Frances, Jody Schroeder, Tannie and Bob.

Pallbearers will be Joe Kukuk, Kevin Kass, Sean Schumacher, Tyler Schumacher, Rob Beacom and John Schumacher.

Memorials may be made in her name to Hospice of Siouxland or Touchstone Living Center
