SLOAN, Iowa | Janice Rae Miller, 76, of Sloan, formerly of Sioux City, was called home on Nov. 19, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Waterbury Funeral Home. The body will be cremated following the service. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation with family from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Online condolences for the family may be made at www.waterburyfuneralserviceinc.com.

Janice was born on Feb. 22, 1936, to Griffin and Ruth (Barcal) Barker. She attended Sioux City schools and graduated from East High in 1954.

She married Tedford Miller on Nov. 3, 1956. They were later divorced. To this union five children were born. She was employed with Interbake Foods for 25 years.

She was a member of Bakers Union 433 and served as a union steward, retiring in 2001. In her retirement, she worked at Quizno’s, where she enjoying talking to and meeting new people. She was a member of Morningside Chapter OES 502. Her hobbies were bird watching, bowling, flower gardening, playing cards, and Wahoo. She was an avid fan of the Sioux City Musketeers in earlier years and was infamously known as the "Chicken Lady" (gotta love her). You won’t find a more loyal Minnesota Vikings fan (hail to the queen).

Mom was a very loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She supported her children in all of their endeavors: (good, bad, or otherwise).

She will be missed by her family which includes two daughters, Patti and Don Surber of Belden Neb., and Toni and Robert Duthoy of Valdosta, Ga.; two sons, Timothy and Laura Miller of Sioux City, and Matthew and Becky Miller of Sergeant Bluff; 11 grandchildren, Amber, Nicholas, Heidi, Aaron, Ryan, Bennie, Melissa, Brent, Matt, Austin, and Madison; eight great-grandchildren; and her special niece, Pauline Collins

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lynn DeBruyne; and a daughter, Rebecca "Becca" Lea.

She was greatly loved and adored by all who knew her. Love you Mom, you are our rock. You were a blessing to all those that knew you.
