Maggie Wiffen 1899- 1995

Maggie Wiffen, 95, Embassy Tower Care Center, died Friday, April 7, 1995,at the care center following a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with the Rev. W. Verdery Kerr of St. Thomas Episcopal Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodbury Township Cemetery in Sergeant Bluff. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8:30 p.m:, at the funeral home.

She was born May 27, 1899, in Long Melford, England, the daughter of William and Julia (Pearman) Parmenter. She married Harry Wiffen Nov. 26, 1921, in Long Melford. The couple came to Sioux City from England in 1957, where she resided until moving to the care center in 1992.

He died April 8, 1961, in Sioux City.

Mrs. Wiffen was a homemaker and a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church.

Survivors include three sons, John and his wife Joan and Spencer and his wife Joy, all of England, and Barry of Sioux City; five daughters, Muriel Johnson of England, Peggy and her husband, Frank Mandicino, Jean and her husband; Bernard Solomon, and Valerie Nordyke, all of Sioux City, and Joan and her husband, Charles McLeod of Calif.; 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Taylor; a brother, seven sisters, and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Barry Solomon, Dean and Tony Taylor, David and Clayton Wiffen, and Rick Schroeder, Jr.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society in Mrs. Wiffen's name.
