CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa — Ford Wellington Joy, 89, of Correctionville died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Grace United Methodist Church in Correctionville, with the Rev. Consorcia Sanchez officiating. Burial will be in Correctionville Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Correctionville.

Mr. Joy was born Oct. 7, 1909, in Correctionville, the son of Clarence and Nellie (Barnes) Joy. He attended rural schools in the Cushing, Iowa, area.

He married Fern Zupp on Aug. 23, 1944. The couple farmed in the Pierson, Iowa, and Correctionville area, until retiring and moving into Correctionville in 1973. She died in 1982.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing cards.

Survivors include four daughters, Cheryl and her husband, Merle Hinkhouse, of Thorton, Colo., Connie and her husband, Dick Mead, of Tyler, Texas, Barbara Joy of Correctionville and Glenda and her husband, Mike Bottjen, of West Des Moines; a son, Bryan of Altoona, Fla.; a sister, Wilma Krantz of Cushing; seven grandchildren, Jeff Hinkhouse, Dawn Lavelle, Jason and Janna Mead, Joshua and Jeremiah Bottjen and Christine Bolkema; five great-grandchildren; a former daughter-in-law, Tammy Sobieski of Deland, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Anna Joy of Correctionville and Mildred Joy of Aurelia, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant son; two infant grandsons, Justin and Jory Mead; two brothers, Lee and Loren; four sisters, Elsie Roche, Lola Fitch, Vinnie Foster and Mary Wonder; and a special friend, Eleanor Anderson.
