Death of Albert Johnson although expected, the news of the death of Albert Johnson last Thursday was received here with sincere sorrow.

We shall all miss the good hearted clean living old man, with his friendly, handclasp and cheery smile.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the M.E. Church, Rev. Rivers officiating. Three old civil War veterans Henry Kurtz, D.P. Bullock and W.H. Millen acted as a guard of honor during the conveyance of the remains from the house to the church which was filled of friends and mourners. Many beautiful floral wreaths were in evidence.

At the close of the services the remains were taken to Battle Center Cemetery where interment was made.

Albert Austin Johnson was born on a farm in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, August 31st 1842. At the age of 22 years, on August 27th 1864 he was enrolled as a private in Company E, 211th Infantry regiment of his native state serving his country faithfully in the Union cause until June 2nd 1865, when he received an honorable discharge at Alexandria, Virginia.

He was united in married to Christina Brougher in the year of 1867. Then they moved to Wayne County, Ohio, and later to near Topeka, Kansas. In 1884 Mr. and Mrs. Johnson came to Ida County, Iowa settling on their 80 acre farm in Battle Township. A few years ago they retired from farm life making their home on a five acre tract east of town which they dispose of one year ago and came to Cushing to spend their declining days.

To this estimable couple were born eleven children of whom five survive namely J.B. Johnson of Battle Twp, Mrs. H.C. Crawford of Ida Grove, Mrs. Thos Spence and Mrs. L Burney of Bucklin, Kansas and Mrs. Elmer Strohm of Seattle, Wash., all whom were present at the death bed with the exception of Mrs. Strohm.

Mr. Johnson was an ambitious energetic man, a good husband and kind father. He was a great reader, especially of church papers and the bible, a man who loved and was loved. The premonitory shadow of death fell across his path on Tuesday, April 1st when after suffering a severe cold for several days; he was taken with severe chills and a physician was called in, when it was found he was stricken with pneumonia. A man of rugged constitution, he with stood the malady for nine days, but finally yielded to the last call and passed peacefully to the great beyond at 9:20 a.m. April 19th, 1937. Besides his wife and five children he leaves to mourn his loss, two brothers, three sisters and a host of friends.
