SIOUX CITY | Roger W. Hunter, 82, of Sioux City died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at his home after a long illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at New Hope Wesleyan Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Albaton Cemetery, rural Sloan, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Roger was born Feb. 10, 1930, in Sloan, Iowa. He was the son of Ruben and Edith (Gerking) Hunter. Roger grew up in the Sloan area and attended country schools. He graduated from Sloan High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956.

Roger married Mary Ann Roush on July 2, 1961 in Kansas City, Mo. He worked in Onawa before moving to Sioux City, where he worked for International Harvester for 27 years. He worked for Standard Ready Mix for a few years and then retired and worked for New Prospectives.

Roger was a founding member of the New Hope Wesleyan Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, board member, treasurer and repairman. He transported children to Sunday school for many years. Roger enjoyed Bible studies and doing missionary work, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann of Sioux City; three children, William R. Hunter and partner, Frank Russo of Olathe, Kan., Brenda Hunter of Sioux City, and John Hunter and his wife, Sarah-Jane Hunter of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Benjamin, Jacob, Brianna, Jayden, Ethan, Megan and Dylan Hunter; and three brothers, David Hunter of Seal Beach, Calif., George Hunter of Sloan, and Lowell Hunter of Falls Church, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lawrence, Gene, Donald and Kendall; and a sister, Virginia Hackett
