SIOUX CITY | Kathleen "Pat" Shell, 86, formerly of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at Wel-Life of Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad as celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present at 6 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Pat was born on May 27, 1926, in Sioux City, to Lawrence and Rosina (Hacker) McQuirk. She received her education in the Sioux City Public Schools, graduating from East High School.

Pat married Andrew P. Shell on June 24, 1947, in Sioux City. Her life centered on her faith and family. She was a proud member of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, staying active in several ladies circles. Pat was a volunteer at Marian Health Center and Mercy Medical Center in the gift shop for 25 years. She continued her service to her faith by working in the gift shop at Trinity Heights. Pat was a wonderful seamstress, and will be fondly remembered for baking her delicious homemade breads. She was very active during political elections, volunteering for the Woodbury County Election Board, including her recent wish to help with this year’s elections.

Following the death of her husband, Andrew in 2005, Pat moved to Hudson, Wis., to be close to family. She enjoyed her membership to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church while in Hudson, and seven months ago, moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa, where her worship continued at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Pat was a fun-loving individual, enjoying cards and various games.

Pat is survived by her children, Andrew Shell and his wife Kathy of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Mary Reckinger and her husband Jim of Woodbury, Minn., Brian Shell and his wife Judy of Hampton, Ill., Patrick Shell and his wife Cathy of Waukee, Iowa, Kathryn Donohue and her husband Mike of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Cheryl Volkert and her husband Mike of Manitowoc, Wis., Gregory Shell and his wife Maureen of Spirit Lake, and Christina Vannes and her husband Russ of Hudson, Wis.; brother Robert "Bob" McQuirk and his wife Lorna; 25 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents; husband Andrew; and five sisters.
