September 24, 2012Terry (Tresa) Carlson, 87, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012 at a local hospital.
As per Terry’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services. Online condolences can be directed to meyerbroschapels.com.
Terry was born on Oct. 23, 1924, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Thomas and Anna (Schroeder) Johnson. She was the youngest of seven children. Terry’s mother died when she was 3 years old, and Terry was raised by her maternal grandparents in Breda, Iowa.
She graduated from St. Bernard’s High in 1942. Over the next four years, Terry traveled with her sister and cousin, living in St. Paul, Minn., Des Moines, Iowa, Waco, Texas, and Omaha, Neb. She worked building B29 aircraft while residing in Omaha.
Terry married James E. "Jim" Carlson on Jan. 5, 1946, in Chicago, Ill. They moved to Sioux City later that year and resided there throughout their marriage of more than 60 years.
Terry enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, golfing and doing crossword puzzles. She was an avid reader throughout her life.
Terry is survived by two daughters, Rhea (Ed) Steck and Connie (Frank) Platt; one sister, Luella DeRoos; four grandchildren, Teri (Brad) Graff, Dan Steck, Jessica (Todd) Wahl and Ashley Platt; and two great-grandsons, Easton Graff and Braden Graff.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Terry’s name to the Siouxland Center for Active Generations.
