September 24, 2012SIOUX CITY | Herman Felsing, 91, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at a local hospital after a brief illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Revs. Mark Groves and Shane Simpson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 7 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Herman was born Oct. 11, 1920 in Lincoln, Neb., the son of Jacob and Mary (Muhl) Felsing.
He married Marjorie McLarty on April 3, 1943 in Sioux City. Herman worked for Sioux Tools as a shipping foreman for over 40 years.
Herman was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church, and was one of the pioneering members when the church was started. In his free time, he loved to bowl and work in the yard, but most of all, Herman loved to spend time with his family. He was a very family-oriented man and loved his family very much.
Herman is survived by his wife, Marge Felsing of Sioux City; a son, Dr. Robert Felsing and wife Michelle of Eugene, Ore.R; two daughters, Judy Simpson and the late Richard Simpson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Sandy Tonjes and her husband Clay of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, Jill Terrill, Katie Felsing, Mike Johnson Jr., Dusty Johnson, Andy Felsing, Cassie Helming, Shannon Fujimagari and Shane Simpson; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen and husband Kenneth Adams of Iowa City, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Mary Felsing of Sioux City; numerous nieces and nephews; and a beloved cat, Sydney.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons-in-law, Michael Johnson Sr. and Richard Simpson; and two brothers, Victor Felsing and Edward Felsing.
