Arthur L. Yates Sr., 73, of Underwood, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, passed in his sleep away Sept. 4, 2012, after a long illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday Bethany Lutheran Church, 1201 Dubuque St., in Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. A lunch will immediately follow at Bethany Lutheran Church. Visitation with the family will be 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Arthur was born on Dec. 24, 1938, in Westfield, Iowa, to the late Fredrick and Mildred (Anderson) Yates. He graduated from Sioux City Central High School in 1956 and attended trade school for two years.

Arthur married his high school sweetheart Beverly Anne McKeever on May 22, 1956, in Dakota City. They resided in Sioux City, where he worked as a master carpenter and was a superintendent for W.A. Klinger for 35 years. He and his wife moved to Underwood in 1986, where Arthur continued working with his son, Skip. He built many homes in the Sioux City area.

Arthur enjoyed farming and raising his greyhounds. Of all his accomplishments he was most proud of his family. Arthur was a member of Carpenters Union, Local 948 in Sioux City.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 56 years, Beverly Yates of Underwood; daughters, Lori Fortune, and Linda Yates, both of Council Bluffs; sons, Arthur "Skip" Yates Jr. and wife, Honey of Underwood, and Rodney Yates of Park City, Utah; grandchildren, Becky (Trevor) Bleil, Cale (Brittni) Yates, Trevour (Zach) Schoeller, Tobey and Clay Yates; great-grandchildren, Cindel, Kayser, and Melina Bleil, and Emma Jay Yates; brothers, Fredrick (Janice) Yates, and Garry (Mary) Yates, all of Sioux City, and John (Judy) Yates of Spirit lake, Iowa; sister, Jacqueline (Chuck) Hinrichsen of Hinton, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Early Childhood Center in Council Bluffs or to the family.
