September 06, 2012Robert L. Widner, 84, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at his residence.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Riverside United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tanya Sherrill officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Robert was born on March 28, 1928, in Sioux City, the son of Roy and Maude (Fouts) Widner. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1947 and served until December 1949. Robert was employed at the Sioux City School board, then in July 1953, by the Sioux City Police Department until July 1983. He graduated from the FBI Academy in 1973. He then worked for the Bureau of Adult Corrrections for 10 years.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene Widner of Sioux City; two sons, Joseph Widner of Sioux City, and Michael Widner of Valdosta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Sarah Vance of Papillion, Neb., and Adam Widner of Aurora, Colo.; two great-grandchildren, Grace Vance and Avery McCoy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, Ed, Austin, Frank, George, Vernon and James; and two sisters, Doris in infancy, and Margaret Fort.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Robert's memory to Hospice of Siouxland or Riverside United Methodist Church.
