Don was born on Feb. 15, 1928, in Lake City, Iowa, the son of Fred R. and Irene Pauline (Woline) Losee. He grew up in Sioux City during the post depression era. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. For about a year he traveled the railroads as a hobo. Through riding the rails and from the people he met is how he got his background for the many songs, poems and cowboy stories he wrote. Don lived in a number of states before returning to Sioux City in the late 1970s.
Don worked out his home repairing lamps, sharpening blades, screen repair and he cleaned large chandeliers. He cherished the times he and his twin brother, Ron and Dan De Lair sang and played guitar at various venues. Many will remember them performing at the Senior Center.
Don was a member of both the local and national Country Music Association. The songs and poems he had written were copyrighted.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, Rhonda (Jerry) Moore and Julie Taylor of Sioux City and Mark Losee and Jack Losee of Florida, plus several other nieces and nephews; and his best friend and musical son, Dan De Lair of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; and a sister.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Moore, Jerry Moore, Will Taylor, Josh De Lair and Craig Brubaker.
Memorials may be made in his name to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
