August 28, 2012SIOUX CITY | Harlan Dobrofsky, 62, of Overland Park, Kan., formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at his residence.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel in Sioux City, with Frank Baron officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.
Harlan Dobrofsky was born on Dec. 10, 1949, to Philip and Eunice (Rivin) Dobrofsky. He graduated from Sioux City Central High School in 1968 and from the University of Iowa in 1972 with a double major in sociology and English. He was employed for 30 years as a benefit administrator by the Social Security Administration at the Midwest Regional Headquarters in Kansas City, Mo., before retiring in 2005.
He was a lifelong member of the United Orthodox Synagogue. Harlan was an avid lifelong Iowa Hawkeye fan and followed all Kansas City sports teams.
He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his three brothers, Richard (sister-in-law, Terri), Norman (sister-in-law, Joanne), and David. Harlan was a devoted and loving uncle to his six nephews and nieces, Steven and Sarah, Adam and Ben, and twins, Jacob and Elizabeth Dobrofsky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Eunice Dobrofsky.
