August 24, 2012SIOUX CITY | Glenn F. Gaffey, 89, of Sioux City, died Saturday Aug. 18, 2012 at a Sioux City nursing home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Michael Erpelding will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, at the Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Glenn was born on March 12, 1923, in Moville, Iowa, to Frank G. and Margaret (Enright) Gaffey. He was raised in Moville and graduated from Moville High School in 1941. The family moved to Sioux City in 1943. He earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Morningside College. He served in the Army Reserves from 1950 until 1953.
On November 24, 1962, he married Bette Sullivan at St. Joseph church in Sioux City. Bette died on Sept. 23, 2003. Glenn was a Certified Public Accountant and owned and managed the Swanson and Gaffey Accounting Firm for 50 years until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the Iowa Society of C.P.A.’s. Glenn was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church; he served on the parents' boards for St. Joseph Grade School and Heelan High School. Glenn was a member of the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, Suburban Rotary Club, and volunteered for the Service Corps of Retired Executives (S.C.O.R.E.) where he served as treasurer for five years. He also previously served on the Mary J. Treglia Community House Board. Glenn loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, a daughter, Abbie Gaffey of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Matthew and Dawn Gaffey of Lincoln, Neb.; two granddaughters, Ireland and Ivy Gaffey; his niece, Colleen Hall-Patton of Henderson, Nev.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters; Florence Gaffey and Jane Hall; and two brothers in infancy.
