SIOUX CITY | William Jeremiah "Jerry" O’Keefe, 83, of Overland Park, Kan., formerly of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at the Garden Terrace in Overland Park.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Jerry was born in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Matthew John Sr. and Mary Murphy O’Keefe on July 29, 1929. He graduated from Central High School, class of 1949. Jerry proudly served in the Iowa National Guard. He worked for his father at the O’Keefe Tire Store in Sioux City. In 1981, Jerry moved to Overland Park, Kan., working in various sales positions.

Jerry was a devoted brother to his six younger siblings. He especially gave a helping hand to his sister Margaret and her husband Richard and their three children.

Jerry’s interests included metro basketball, bowling, billiards, inspirational books, movies and music. He was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Kansas City, Kan. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6781.

Jerry is survived by his brother, Michael O’Keefe and wife Vi of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; sisters, Patricia Allen of Boerne, Texas, Jane Ann Burnett and husband Joseph of Jefferson City, Mo., and Jean O’Keefe of Riverside, Calif.; eight nieces and nephews; 17 great-nieces and -nephews; and many friends. Although we grieve and will miss Jerry very much, we know he is with the Lord and departed members of his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Margaret Kistler of Overland Park, Kan.; and brother, Matthew John O’Keefe Jr. of Sioux City.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Jerry’s name to Trinity Heights, 33rd and Floyd Blvd., Sioux City, IA 51102 or Knight of Columbus Council 6781, c/o Dave Cresswell, 9605 Georgia Ave., Kansas City, KS 66109.
