DANBURY, Iowa | William R. Durst, 79, Clive, Iowa, formerly of Danbury, passed away Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, at Rowley Memorial Masonic Nursing Home in Perry, Iowa.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark Lutheran Church in West Des Moines. Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Thursday in Danbury, with military rites. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m., at Brooks Funeral Care, 7975 University Blvd., in Clive.

Bill was born on Feb. 4, 1933, in Danbury, the son of Paul "Pilly" and Lola (Otto) Durst. Bill worked for the Social Security Administration for 30 years, and retired as district manager in Des Moines.

Bill and Margaret were united in marriage on Aug. 21, 1955, in Holstein, Iowa. They had three children.

He is a member of Masonic Lodges, Vesper in Onawa, WestGate-Adelphic, and Scottish Rite in Des Moines. He became a Past Master of WestGate-Adelphic in 2003. He is also a member of the Quiet Birdmen.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Margaret; three children, Sondra "Soni" Hansen of Grimes, Iowa, Doug (Tricia Nickolisen) Durst of Shawnee, Kan., and Sara (Eric) Peet of Rapid City, S.D.; and five grandchildren, Kirsten (Andrew) Pursifull of St. Louis, Mo., and Katie Hansen, Devin and Jack Durst, and Makena Peet.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and stepfather, Bert VanderNaald.

Memorials may be given to Rowley Memorial Masonic Nursing Home, their church, St. Mark Lutheran Church, or to HCI Care Services.
