Charry Joann Washburn, 67, of Sloan, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, at Marian Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Mrs. Washburn was born May 19, 1930, at Salix, Iowa, the daughter of Milton and Eveline (Pepin) Small. She attended school at Salix and received her GED from Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City. On September 10, 1947, she married Dale Washburn in Salix with Father Finnegan officiating. The couple lived in Horniek and Osage, Iowa before moving back to Hornick in 1988 and to Sloan in 1990.

She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix and the Tabernacle Society. She was a 4H leader and a member of the Hornick Study Club and the Rural Mail Carriers Auxiliary. She worked at the Sacred Heart Day Care Centerat Osage as a teacher's aid and was a superintendent at the Woodbury County Fair. She was a avid bowler and actively followed high school athletics.

Survivors include her husband, Dale of Sloan; two daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Kevin Fehrmann of Irvine, California, and Barbara J. and Dirk Hansen of Hornick, Iowa; one son and his wife, Doug and Rita Washburn of Hornick, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Becky Anderson, Cory Bindner, Casey Washburn, Baylee Washburn, Sage Washburri, Andy Smith, Tony Hansen, and Tyler' Hansen; one great-grandson, Dale Anderson; one brother and his wife, Francis and Jana Small of Salix; and three sisters, Patricia and her husband, George Ryan of Sioux City, Marjorie and her husband, Frank Thomas of Boise, Idaho, and Mary Lou Zuver of Salt Lake City, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ken; and a brother, Milton.

A scripture service was held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 13, 1998. The organist was
Mrs. Jane Heisterkamp and the Cantor was Mrs. Mary Holzerland. The selections were "Christ the Lord is Risen Today" and Though the Mountain May Fall".

A funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salix, Iowa, with Father Bruce Lawler, Mass Celebrant. The organist was Mrs. Jane Heisterkamp and the Cantor was Mrs. Mary Holzerland. The selections were "Blest Be The Lord", "Alleluia", "Supper of the Lord" and "On Eagles Wings".

Honorary bearers were Fran Mitchell, Marge Ryan, Rose Wilt, Helen Teel, Irene Smith, Della Delperdang, Shirley Copple, Marilyn Topt, Clara Wall, Lela Reisch, Jane Madsen, Gert Friis, Lei Kraft, and Marion LaBrune.

Casket bearers were Lyle Mitchell, Cory Bindner, Casey Washburn, Gene Mogensen, Andy Smith, and Ken Kraft.

Interment was in the Willow Township Cernetery, Holly Springs, Iowa with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.

Memorials have been established with Marian Health Center Diabetes Education Department or Nursing Education Program.
