Kenneth L. Metcalf, 83, of Holly Springs died unexpectedly Monday, April 6, 1998, at his residence.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Chirsty, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home in Sioux City, with the Rev. Terrie Lillie, pastor of Central Baptist Church in Sioux City, officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery at Holly Springs. Visitation will be from noon to 8:30 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Metcalf was born July 29, 1914, in Holly Springs, the son of Leonard and Cora (Cox) Metcalf. He gradauted from Holly Springs. High School in 1932, where he played baseball and basketball.

He married Geraldine Lillie on Jan. 7, 1937, in Elk Point, S.D. He farmed and drove stock and grain trucks for over 20 years. He was active in sports and participated on town teams.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Dennis and Beverly of Dallas, Texas; three daughters and their husbands, Avalee and Bud Horn of Newport Beach, Calif., Cheryl and Terry VanCleve of Ralston, Neb. and Corene and Milt Aunan of Urbandale, Iowa; a sister, Fern Chilton of Fullerton, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, Michelle, Denise, Mike, Tim, Troy, Tamra, Amy, Jana, Kari and Laura; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be directed to Hornick Railroad Museum in Hornick, Iowa
