Bernard Dean Forney, 81, of Sioux City died Thursday June 27, 1996, at Green Acres Care Center in South Sioux City.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Morningside Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Tom Jacobs, church pastor, officiating. Burial will he in Willow Township Cemetery in Holly Springs, Iowa. Visitation will, be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, at the Wood Funeral Home in Sloan, Iowa.

Mr. Forney was born Jan. 16, 1915, near Holly Springs, the son of Orval D. and Annabelle C. (Clift) Forney. He graduated from Climbing Hill High School and attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. Mr. Forney farmed for a long time in the Climbing Hill and Holly Springs areas. He married Bethene McClaran on Sept 10, 1938. She died July 13, 1968. He married Fama Kern on Aug. 29, 1975. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1985.

Mr. Forney was a member of Morningside Assembly of God Church. He served on the Hornick Elevator board, the local school board, and the State of Iowa Grain Dealers board.

Survivors include his wife, Fama; four daughters and their husbands, Sandra and Bud Welch of Denison, Iowa, and Linda and Gail Palmer, Sherry and Rick Book, and Pam and Mike Melham, all of Sioux City; a son, Larry of Indiana; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two stepchildren, Allen and his wife Ruth Kern of Sioux City, and Patricia and her husband Leon Yoerger of Merrill, Iowa; seven step-grandchildren; eight step -great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ardell "Buster" of Petaluma, Calif.; David of Westminster, Colo.; and Donald of Rodney, Iowa; and a sister, Mary Alice Hansen of Petaluma.

He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marilyn; a brother, Roy; and two sisters, Frances Madison and Norma Jean Griggs.

Pallbearers will be Mike and Kenny Welch, Rodney Yoerger, Troy Kern, Scott Meadows and Cruz Torres.

A memorial has been established in his name with Morningside Assembly of God Church.
