Ronald D. Pilgrim, 78, of Greenwood, S.C., formerly of Sioux City and Correctionville, died Monday, May 30, 2011, at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.

Services will be at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Greenwood. Arrangements are under the direction of Cremation Society of South Carolina in Greenville.

Ronald was born June 18, 1932, in Sioux City to the late Harry J. and Cecile J. Pilgrim. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He received his bachelor of science degree from Wayne (Neb.) State College, and his master of educational administration degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb.

He served as an elementary school principal in Des Moines, Iowa, and West Point, Neb. He received his educational specialist degree from the University of Nebraska-Omaha and went on to serve as superintendent of schools in Genoa, Neb., Buffalo Center, Iowa, and Correctionville. He retired to Greenwood in September 2002.

He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where he served as a lector, was on the parish council and organized the Hospice House Ensure Drive for two years. He also volunteered at the Greenwood Soup Kitchen.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Margaret; sons, Rick (Carol) Pilgrim of Littleton, Colo., and Scott Pilgrim of Wilmington, N.C.; daughters, Debbie (Bill) Ottoson of Amarillo, Texas, Alison Pilgrim of Greenville and Stacey (Matt) Mickle of Rotterdam, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and a great-grandson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice Care of South Carolina-Greenwood, United Center of Community Care or Our Lady of Lourdes Building Fund.
