Annabel L. Camarigg, 90, of Correctionville passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church in Correctionville, with the Rev. Sheryl K. Ashley officiating. Burial will be in Correctionville Cemetery in Correctionville. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m., at Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Correctionville.

Annabel Lee Peterson Camarigg, first child of August J. Peterson and Lillian Mae (McCormick) Peterson, was born Oct. 5, 1920. She lived her entire life in the Correctionville community.

She began formal schooling at Summit No. 2 School, which was moved from its original location north of town to the Little Sioux Park, where it is periodically open for visitors. When she was in the fourth grade, her family moved to a farm east of town. She attended Cushing Consolidated School through grade 10. Her remaining high school years were completed at Correctionville High School, where she took normal training. Upon high school graduation, she began a career of teaching in the rural schools of Woodbury County.

Her work was interrupted when she married Lawrence W. Camarigg on Dec. 30, 1941. Within months of their wedding, Lawrence was drafted into service for World War II. He was affectionately known in the Army as "Shorty." During the 42 months he was away, she ran the Midway Store. Shortly after his return, they began farming north of Midway. Subsequently, they purchased a farm in Rock Township east of Correctionville, where they lived the remainder of their lives. They were blessed with four children, William, Douglas, Linda and Gayle.

When her children were older, she resumed her teaching profession in Anthon, Iowa, and later in Cushing. Her B.S. degree with majors in elementary education and library science was awarded at Morningside College in 1974. Becoming acquainted with the children and fellowship with her co-workers was a great delight for her. In 1989 she retired after having spent 23 years in her chosen profession.

She was a member of Chapter CP, P.E.O., Woodbury County Farm Bureau, Mumford-Moon Legion Auxiliary and Grace United Methodist Church. Her church membership dates back to 1936. She taught Sunday school and Bible school, held various offices and was church organist for more than 70 years.

Her family consists of her sons, William August and his wife, Rebecca of New Orleans, La., and Douglas Lee of London, England; her daughters, Linda Joyce and her husband, Michael Plueger of Ogden, Iowa, and Gayle Sue and her husband, Don Naglak of Story City, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Linda Lou, Candis Rae and Justin August Camarigg, Jaime Ann West and husband, Chad of Ames, Iowa, Jason Michael Plueger and wife, DeeAnn of Ankeny, Iowa, Julie Sue Lancaster and husband, Chris of Ankeny, Annabel Sue, David Camarigg and Cameron Wayne Naglak; three great-grandchildren, Zachary Jason Plueger, Michaela Sharon West and Isaiah Robert Lancaster; two sisters, Jean Blass and Bonnie Kummer; a brother, Charles Peterson; sister-in-law, Nyla Markusen and her husband, Mark of Long Beach, Calif.; and 15 nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband of 50 years; her parents; dear brother, Bob, who was killed in an auto accident at age 30; brothers-in-law, Carl Nielsen, Jack Kummer and George Blass; sisters-in-law, Helen Nielsen and Lavone Peterson; and a nephew, Richard Peterson.

She treasured her family and friends. She loved her church and took great pleasure in her garden and lawn. The farm was where she liked to be.
