William L. "Bill" Martin, 60, of Sioux City died suddenly Wednesday, June 1, 2011, in Sioux City after battling years of various health issues.

Services were held Friday, June 3, at Wesley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Steven Stoll of Trinity Lutheran Church of Hinton officiating.

Bill was born May 27, 1951, to Carroll and Elizabeth Martin in New Jersey. He attended Central High School before enlisting in the military. Bill served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran.

He married Patricia Harrington in December 1973, and was blessed with a daughter, Carri, from this marriage. They divorced in 1984.

In November 1989, Bill married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Muecke, who sadly passed away in March 2011.

Bill was a lifelong Sioux City resident. He worked for various trucking companies during his career as a long-haul truck driver. He had a passion for trucking and was known to his grandsons as "Grandpa Big Truck" or "Papa Big Truck."

Bill had a deep love for NASCAR racing. He was a fan of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Bill enjoyed playing cards and cribbage with friends.

Survivors include a daughter, Carri (Thomas) Weaverling of Creswell, Ore.; a son, Andrew (Becky) Bridgeman of Hinton; a daughter, Rebecca (JR) Reichenbach of Sioux City; two grandsons, DJ and Anthony of Creswell; his mother, Elizabeth Martin of Sioux City; his mother-in-law, Nicky Muecke of Merrill, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, Ron (Esther) Muecke of Pierson, Iowa, and Michael (Bonnie) Muecke of Merrill; aunts, Jenny Herrick of Sioux City, Ina of Minnesota, and Patricia (Donald) Warren and Bedola Gorum, all of Omaha; a special brother, David Mayrose of Plainfield, Ind.; and special sisters, Cheryl Iverson and Mary Iverson, both of Yankton, S.D., and Kris Kempter of Kansas City, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his father, Carroll; a sister, Nancy; a daughter, Melissa in infancey; a grandson, CJ; his father-in-law, Clarence Muecke; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
