Toni Hartshorn, 59, of Sioux City died Thursday, July 28, 2011, at her residence from an illness with primary peritoneal cancer.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dave Denzer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Avenue. Toni was born June 16, 1952, in Storm Lake, Iowa, to George and June (Christensen) Tatman. She grew up in Newell, Iowa and graduated from Newell Providence High School in 1970. She then attended the University of Northern Iowa.

Toni married Dale Vernon Hartshorn on April 29, 1972 in Newell, Iowa. She lived in Storm Lake for a short time before her marriage to Dale, and then they lived in Schaller, Iowa, from 1972 until 1988. They lived in Hinton, Iowa, from 1988 to 1991 and then moved to Sioux City. Toni was a floral designer for Blooms from 1993 until 1999 and then worked for Petal Pusher from 1999 to 2010. She was most proud of being a stay-at-home mom until her girls were raised.

While in Newell, Toni was a member of Nain Lutheran Church. She had also been a member of the Schaller United Methodist Church and the Hinton United Methodist Church. While in Hinton, Toni was a Sunday school secretary, church board member, on the board of trustees and was church secretary. After moving to Sioux City, Toni became a member of Morningside Lutheran Church.

Toni most enjoyed entertaining. She threw parties, showers and even hosted a wedding in her home. Having every detail of an event planned perfectly, a Toni party was sure to create memories. Toni was a creative soul. She had many outlets for her art, including the cover for the Schaller Centennial Cookbook.

Survivors include her husband, Dale Hartshorn of Sioux City; two daughters, Ivy Towler and her husband Scott of Coralville, Iowa, and Amber Hartshorn of Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren, Maggie, Will, Cade and Graham Towler of Coralville, Iowa; sisters, Sharon Miller and her husband Kurt of Ankeny, Iowa, and Shelly Willoughby and her husband Rick of Knoxville, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Gary Harthsorn and his wife Robbie of Ottawa, Ill., Kerry Hartshorn and his wife Fonda of Coweta, Okla., Lee Hartshorn and his wife Vickie of Maricopa, Ariz., and Dana Hartshorn and his wife Dede of Aurora, Colo.; sister-in-law, Marcia Woodke and her husband Brian of Schaller, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews; and her stepfather, Merlyn Bonde of Waukee, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and June Tatman.

Pallbearers will be Chris Maselter, Jake and Josh Willoughby, Jason Hartshorn, Brad Woodke and Rusty Flannery. Honorary pallbearers will be Maggie, Will, Cade and Graham Towler.

Memorials may be made in Toni's name to Sioux City Community Theater, Morningside Lutheran Church or the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.
