Bruce "Ron" Hexamer, 60, of Elk Point, S.D., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2011 at a Yankton, S.D. hospital after a brief illness.

A celebration of life service will be held 6 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave., with the Rev. Curt Matson officiating. A private family burial will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends the hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Bruce Ronald was born April 1, 1951, son of Bruce Edward and Shirley Virginia (Stephens) Hexamer. He graduated from East High School, then attended Briar Cliff College. Ron worked at IBP for a number of years then at Gateway for about 15 years. He was currently employed by Securus, repairing phones in the southeast region of South Dakota and prior to that, in the Kearney, NE region.

Ron enjoyed shooting pool, walking his dog, and spending time with friends. He was looking forward to being a grandpa.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Jennifer and Sam Davis of Omaha, Neb., and their baby girl, due to arrive next month; his mother, Shirley Hexamer of Sioux City; three siblings, Shyla Bauer and her husband Fred of San Francisco, Calif., Terry Hexamer and his wife Terri of Alton, Iowa, and Cathy Johnson of Lawton, Iowa; four nieces; three nephews; and his beloved dog, Sydney.

He was preceded in death by his father.
