Hazel Henrietta Breisch, lover of life and friend of many, passed away peacefully on Aug. 1, 2012 at the Sunrise Nursing Home at age 102. She enjoyed life to the fullest, understanding that to have joy, one must share joy.

Celebrate Hazel’s life at a memorial service to be held 10 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Kenny Hsu officiating, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will follow the service in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Martinsburg, Neb. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Born Oct. 22, 1909, to John and Minnie (Bauman) Stark, Hazel was the first daughter of eight children, all of whom were raised in the Martinsburg, Neb. area.

Hazel married Carl Kamrath on Oct. 28, 1930, and together they happily raised three children until his death in 1973. She married Cecil Breisch on March 21, 1975, and remained married to him until his death in 1978.

It would be difficult to ever recall a time when Hazel was not smiling, and it was especially evident at her 100th birthday celebration, which was attended by many people whose lives she had touched. She spread joy in everything she did, which included helping to raise her siblings, cleaning houses and the Trinity Lutheran Church, babysitting children and working at the Post Office in Martinsburg. During her free time, Hazel loved to spend time with her family, dance, watch movies, play Bingo and listen to music and enjoyed many hours at the Senior Center. She was also very grateful for the care she received from the workers at Sunrise Retirement Center and Hospice.

Hazel leaves to cherish her loving memory her children, Robert Kamrath of New Hampton, Iowa, Darrell (Barbara) Kamrath of New Braunfels, Texas, and Marilyn Farrer of Sioux City; her grandchildren, Debby (Tom) Speltz, Cindy Perry, Pam Mullen, Diane Gil, Allison (Mike) Fryman, Vicki Kamrath, Sherry LaFleur, Debbie (Bill) Hoffman and Steve (Camra) Farrer; her sister, Minnie Camerer; and brother John (Dolores) Stark. She also has 17 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Hazel was preceded in death by husbands Carl and Cecil; brother, Arnold (Smokey) Stark; sisters, Ethel Stracke, Valeska Esse, Jeri Sullivan and Albertena Stark; daughter-in-law, June Kamrath; son-in-law, Vince Farrer Jr; sister-in-law, Alberta Stark; brothers-in-law, Jack Esse, Hobert Camerer and Francis Sullivan; grandson, John Kamrath (as an infant); great-grandsons, Alex and Ryan Speltz and Bradley Wright; and grandson-in-law, Beano LaFleur.
