Herbert "Herb" Harvey Rigg, 82, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital following complications from an accident.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. David Hemann officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Air Force. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today, with the family present at 5 p.m., a rosary at 5:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Herb was born Oct. 12, 1929, in Anselmo, Neb., the son of John Harvey and Mary Ann (Albert) Riggs. He attended one-room country schools in Maple Landing, Iowa, rural Moville, Iowa, and rural Lawton, Iowa. He graduated from Sioux City Leeds High School. He was a member of the Iowa Air National Guard, and activated during the Korean Conflict, serving with a unit in Bangor, Maine.

He married Carol "Joan" Daly on Oct. 22, 1950, in Sioux City.

Herb worked for Mid-American Energy (formerly Iowa Public Service) for 43 years. He retired as gas division regional manager in Sioux City in December 1991.

Herb was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. He was a friend of Bill W. for 33 years, since April 1979.

He enjoyed his grandkids, great-grandkids, golf, hunting, fishing, books and bluegrass and old-time country music.

Survivors include his wife, Carol "Joan" Rigg of Sioux City; five children, Michael (Janet) Rigg of Elk Point, S.D., Rosemary "Rosie" (Emery) Moody of Sioux City, Colleen (Dr. Brad) Chicoine of Sioux City, Dr. Joseph (Kristin) Rigg of Aberdeen, S.D., and Cindy (Paul) Bjork of Urbandale, Iowa;a brother, Ralph Paul (Bernadine) Riggs of Washta, Iowa; 18 grandchildren, Megan (Matt) Haefner, Padraic (Katie) Rigg, Daniel (Melissa) Moody, Michael (Kerry) Moody, Jessica (Scott) Paulsen, Jillian Moody, Christine Chicoine, Jennifer Chicoine, Amiee (Brad) Burnett, Nicholas Chicoine, Maire (Jon) Harris, Mairghread, Erinn and Fionualla Rigg, and Andrew, Matthew, Benjamin and Kaitlyn Bjork; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, James; two infant grandsons, Jason and Joseph Chicoine; and a brother, Harlan.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Memorials may be directed to St. Michael Catholic Church or Trinity Heights.
