James F. Ortery, 57, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at his home after a long illness.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with military rites conducted by Iowa Army National Guard. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home. Condolences may be posted online at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

James was born July 1, 1955 in Aledo, Ill., the son of Harry and Pauline (Robbins) Ortery. He grew up in Aledo and attended Monmouth (Ill.) High School. He joined the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War.

James married Carol S. (Anders) Baker on March 16, 2007, in Dakota City.

James went to PACE. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR Races, playing cribbage, camping and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Ortery of Sioux City; a daughter, Jamie Stanley of St. Paul, Minn.; his mother, Pauline Ortery of Monmouth; three stepdaughters, Darlene Parson of Sioux City, Victoria Sneller of Fremont, Neb., and Jennifer (Vern) McFarland of Omaha, Neb.; four brothers; three sisters; four grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harry; a brother, Brad Ortery; and his grandparents.
