Leonard Gorter, 80, of Linn Valley, Kan., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, Aug 4, 2012, at Olathe (Kan.) Medical Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Linn Valley Community Church. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Schneider Funeral Home in LaCygne, Kan. Online condolences may be posted at www.schneiderfunerals.com.

He was born Feb. 20, 1932, in Doon, Iowa, to William and Elizabeth (Lems) Gorter. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Korean War.

He married June Mans on April 9, 1954, in Volga, S.D.

Leonard was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, who loved spending time with family. He enjoyed fishing and telling jokes. He was an active member in the Linn Valley community and was loved by many.

Survivors include his wife, June; two sons, Tim Gorter of Linn Valley and Todd (Karen) Gorter of Olathe; three daughters, Robin Martin and Crystal Gorter, both of Westminster, Colo., and Pennie (Ron) Mesmer of Leawood, Kan.; two brothers, Andrew Gorter and Ardell Gorter; two sisters, Cora Van Surksum and Betty Gorter; 10 grandchildren, Aaron, Brian and Carly Mesmer, Mikah, Kirby and Kelsey Martin, and Brandon, Nicole, Paige and Jason Gorter; and three great-grandchildren, Asher, Liliana and Charlotte Mesmer, and two more expected in October.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lawrence Gorter.
