Kent A. Rogers, 64, Weatherby Lake, Mo., formerly of Sioux City, passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 15, 2011, at St. Luke's Northland Hospital.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Platte Woods United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland in Parkville, Mo. Memories of Kent and condolences to the family may be made at www.meyersfuneralchapel.com.

Kent was born Feb. 14, 1947, to Robert and Glennis (Deist) Rogers. Kent grew up in Sergeant Bluff, where he received an undergraduate degree from Iowa State University and earned his M.D. from University of Nebraska-Omaha. He has been a practicing doctor for almost 40 years in Sioux City and Kansas City, most recently with the Encompass Medical Group. As a beloved pediatrician, Kent didn't just treat his patients, he cared for all of them.

Kent had a fond love of the outdoors, whether bicycling down country roads, hiking in the mountains or enjoying time with his family. One of Kent's biggest passions was vacationing in Colorado. At least once a year, he would make the long drive to Estes Park, where he would sit outside a tent or on a cabin porch and take in the mountain air. His camp food, bannock, notorious for its gourmet blandness, made for extraordinarily durable Christmas ornaments.

Survivors include his wife, Lorene Zellmer (Ricci) Rogers of Weatherby Lake; children, Eric Rogers and wife Lisa Gomez of Fort Worth, Texas, Neal Rogers and wife Amy Morgan-Rogers of Kansas City, Mo., Brent Ricci and wife Amy Venturella of St. Louis, Mo., Scott and wife Stacy Rogers of Gaithersburg, Md., and Megan Rogers of New York City; his mother, Glennis (Deist) Rogers of Sergeant Bluff; brother, Randy Rogers of Sergeant Bluff; sister, Cheryl Rogers of Ames, Iowa; five grandchildren, Bobby, Nathan, Jackson, Zachary and Abigail, and two more grandchildren who are due this year.

Kent was preceded in death by two brothers who died in infancy; and his father.

In lieu of flowers, the Rogers family has requested memorial contributions to the Rocky Mountain Nature Association, attention of Next Generation Fund/Kent Rogers Memorial, P.O. Box 3100, Estes Park, CO. 80517, or www.rmna.org.
