Evelyn "June" Wishman, 79, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012.

A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David Cox officiating. A luncheon and time of fellowship with the family will follow the service Thursday at the church. Private graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Glidden (Iowa) City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

June was born on March 25, 1933, in Glidden, Iowa, the daughter of Roy Thomas and Beatrice (Long) Solt. June graduated from Glidden Community High School in 1950. She attended Iowa State Teachers College and received a master's degree in library science from the University of Northern Iowa.

June was a librarian and teacher for various schools in Iowa. She retired in 1996 from Hoover Middle School after being with the Sioux City Community School District for 26 years.

June was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and the Red Hat Society. She was a professional storyteller and wrote a book, The Farmers Daughter AKA The Brat. June also enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include three daughters, Wendy Lingo and her husband, Jim of Mount Dora, Fla., and Toni and Teresa Wishman of Denison, Iowa; a sister, Joy Gregory and her husband, Bill of Glidden; and two grandsons, James Michael "Mike" Lingo and Mitchell Lingo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Wilford Solt and Donald Solt; and her sisters, Margery Peters and Mavis Shoemaker.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mark Lutheran Church or WESCO in Denison, Iowa.
