Janis (Vredenburgh) Thomsen, 63, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, July 16, 2011, surrounded by her family, at a local hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. James Pointer officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery at Moorhead, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Janis Hope was born Jan. 23, 1948 at Moorhead, Iowa, the daughter of Dale and Margaret (Lundeen) Vredenburgh. She was raised in the Moorhead area and graduated from East Monona High School in 1966.

Janis and Leonard H. Berg were married Sept. 12, 1967. Three children were born to this union, Theresa, Brian and Timothy. Janis later married Robert Thomsen Oct. 14, 1989.

Janis worked at Pryor Feed Bunk in Moorhead and was a waitress at Helen's Restaurant in Onawa. She was employed with Onawa Head Start and later was a shipping manager at Pech Optical in Sioux City for 15 years until ill health forced her retirement.

She was a member of Moorhead Christian Church. She enjoyed crafts and caring for her flowers. Janis had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh.

Survivors include her husband, Robert "Bob" Thomsen of Sioux City; her children, Theresa (Sean) Murray of Estes Park, Colo., Brian (Gina) Berg of West Haven, Utah, and Timothy Berg of Sioux City; two stepchildren, Clint Thomsen of Sioux City and Candace Thomsen of Omaha, Neb.; four grandchildren, Amber (Aanston) Frazier, Ashley Murray (fiance, Clint Hall) and Justin and Tyler Berg; her father, Dale Vredenburgh of Moorhead; two brothers, Larry (Mary) of Cleveland, Okla., and James (Mary Jo) of Sergeant Bluff; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her mother; grandparents, Martin and Blanche Lundeen and Rex and Elsie Vredenburgh; and an uncle, William Lundeen.
