Alan L. Rood, 61, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at his residence.

Abiding by his wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no services at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Alan, the son of Clarence and Margaret (Spreng) Rood, was born on Nov. 15, 1950, in Sioux City. He graduated from Dow City (Iowa) High School in 1969. After high school, he honorably served his country in the U.S. Army.

Alan married Karen Russell on April 9, 2001, in Elk Point, S.D., after sharing their lives together since 1976. They have lived in Sioux City for 32 years. Alan worked for IBP for 35 years before his health declined.

He enjoyed caring for his acreage and having family gatherings. He also enjoyed playing golf and penny slots at the boat.

Alan is survived by his wife, Karen Rood of Sioux City; one stepson, Russell (Sherri) Huffman of Merrill, Iowa; three stepdaughters, Christine (Dave) Simon of Sioux City, Veronica Huffman of Sioux City, and Joleen (Monty) Delutri of Merrill; two brothers, Wayne Rood of Arion, Iowa, and Lyle (Barb) Rood of Templeton, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Donna and Janice.
