Florine L. (Buchanan) Derby, 94, of Sioux City passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at her home.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Whitfield United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Florine was born Oct. 9, 1917, to Ralph and Ellen (Anderson) Buchanan in Sioux City. She worked at the Log Cabin Restaurant during World War II, and she also worked at Thompson Drug Store for many years. She loved all who worked there, the owners and those who came in to buy or who stopped in to say Hi.

Florine married Harold "Johnny" Derby, who owned Johnny's Tavern in Sioux City for over 30 years. He passed away in January of 1980.

Florine was a member of Whitfield United Methodist Church and had been active in the choir and many of the church activities.

She is survived by her children, Raymond Derby and his wife, Bea of Winchester, Va., Jackie (Derby) Wyant and her husband, Gary of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and John Derby of Sioux City; her very dear friend and almost daughter, Marilyn Dermit; a sister, Joyce Webster of Whittier, Calif.; a brother, Ralph Buchanan Jr. of Grants Pass, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters; and three daughters-in-law.

Donations may be made to Hospice of Siouxland or to the family.
