Don was born in Sioux City on Feb. 2, 1931, the son of Raymond and Anna M (Lorenezen) Mann. He attended Sioux City East High School.

He was united in marriage with Carmen Wilcox in Sioux City in 1951. Carmen preceded Don in death in 1975 in Sioux City. He later married Marion Bishop in 1978 in Elk Point, S.D. Don worked as a meat cutter for many years at Swift Packing, Armour & Company, and Needham's Packing. He then began working for the USDA as a meat inspector. He retired from full-time employment in 1993 but continued to work on a part-time basis for USDA.

Don was an excellent and skilled water skier who was instrumental in building the ski ramp at Crystal Lake in South Sioux City. He was one of the first three people in the area to ski barefoot. He enjoyed traveling in his RV to Texas and Louisiana. He also was an avid gun collector and enjoyed trap shooting.

Don was a former member of the U.S. Army Reserve and the Iowa Air National Guard 185th Air Division.

He will be missed by his family, which includes his wife, Marion, of Old Forge, N.Y.; his son, Kelly, of St. Augustine, Fla.; his daughter, Terri Mann of Sioux City; his 22 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Carmen; one brother; and his son Steve.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made in his name to Hospice of Siouxland.
