Phillip Bentley Greedy, 90, Overland Park, Kan.,July 31, 2012 12:00 am

SIOUX CITY | Phillip Bentley Greedy, 90, Overland Park, Kan., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2012, at The Sweet Life at Brookdale Place.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel in Sioux City.

Phil was born on Aug. 20, 1921, in Sioux City, the son of George E. Greedy and the former Marjorie Eggleston. Phil graduated from Sloan (Iowa) High School, attended Iowa State University and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a B.S. degree in accounting.

He married Joyce P (Enockson) Greedy on Jan. 26, 1946. He was married for 64 years prior to Joyce’s death in 2010. During their marriage, Phil and Joyce lived in Wahoo, Neb., Glenview and Northbrook, Ill., Atlantic, Iowa, and settled in Sioux City. In later years, he and his wife moved to Overland Park to be closer to their daughter, Susan Joslin.

Phil was a World War II veteran serving as a Navy LT officer aboard LST-41 in the Pacific Theater, making five D-Day landings. He served in the Navy from 1943 until his discharge in 1949. He later worked in several administrative and accounting positions with Central Fuel Corporation of Chicago, Mid-Continent Coal and Coke Company of Chicago, Henningsen Steel Products Company of Atlantic, Iowa, Wilson Trailer Company and Dyna-Tech Corporation of Sioux City. He finished his working career with Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City as an accounting instructor, personnel director and assistant to the college superintendent.

Phil loved to play golf and took great pride in his yard and garden. He also was active in Sioux City Kiwanis and Masonic Temple.

Phil is survived by his son, John Alan Greedy and his wife, Sharon and granddaughter, Kristen of Pickerington, Ohio; son, Thomas William Greedy and his wife, Lisa of Lucas, Texas; and daughter, Susan Elizabeth Joslin and her husband, Chuck Heckmann of Olathe, Kan.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Odyssey Hospice, 8735 Rosehill Road, Suite 200, Lenexa, KS 66215.
